Aluminium / Nomex honeycombs
High performance components with minimal weight and high stiffness are accomplished through the use of honeycomb structures and sandwich materials. For this demanding tasks we offer the right material. Nomex honeycombs consist of aramid fibres, that are soaked in phenol resins. In combination with prepregs efficient, lightweight sandwich components are formed. Another processing possibility is vacuum bagging.
The hexagonal structure of the honeycombs enables a maximum stability and stiffness at minor bendings. Overexpanded nomex honeycombs are preferably processed on components with comparitively small radii.
High-strength and stiff honeycombs made of efficient aluminium alloys are used e.g. as the base in water jet cutters and for structural pannels in engineering. Another important application field for aluminium honeycombs is the use as a crash element. Covering layers made of aluminium or laminates close up the single honeycombs and create a light material with a goof bending stiffness. All honeycombs are available with customer specific covering layers upon request.
